There is something about Spring that brings rejuvenation and excitement to all areas of our library organization!
We celebrated the new academic quarter with the opening of the exhibit: Costuming the Leading Ladies of Shakespeare: From Stratford to Orange County. The standing-room-only presentation by Professor Marcy Froehlich perfectly complemented materials from UCI Libraries Special Collections & Archives and the Department of Drama. Of special note, was the Libraries' newly acquired book of illustrated fairytales by famed Shakespearian actress Helena Modjeska, which was on display to the public only during the exhibit opening night (viewable thereafter by special appointment at the Special Collections & Archives Department).
While materials from Special Collections and Archives are often highlighted in our library exhibits and other events--we hope you'll enjoy reading the newsletter article about the ongoing work of our professional archivists, which provides a behind-the-scenes look at management of rare materials.
This newsletter issue highlights many of the Libraries' exciting grant projects and collaborations with the campus and community. In alignment with UCI's Strategic Plan, our community engagement efforts have been a priority and our UCI Libraries community-centered archives, collections, and programs have been listed on the new UCI Engage website.
Over the summer, we will continue to work to strengthen our partnerships, services and public programming. We look forward to sharing our progress with you in coming months and invite you to attend our upcoming summer events.
