Donors Attend Viewing of Salinger Family Fund Acquisitions

ImageOn February 21st, Thomas and Lynda Salinger attended a special viewing of the materials purchased with the Salinger Family Library Endowed Fund. The Salinger Family Library Endowed Fund was established in 2004 by Tom’s late mother, Irene Saltern Salinger, as a tribute to her family and to demonstrate her strong belief in the value of learning and research for the benefit of society. The couple has continued Irene’s legacy by supporting the strength of the fund over the years.

“When a donor gets to see and hold the books and materials their gifts provided, it is a rewarding experience,” said Julie Sully, Acting Director of Development for the Libraries. “They understand in a truly tangible way the impact their giving has made for our students and faculty.”

The Salinger Family Fund supports the Libraries’ general research collections, with a special focus on the acquisition of materials in the areas of eye research and world peace, two subjects of particular interest to Irene and her family.

“The funding generated by the Salinger Family Library Endowed Fund each year is critical to maintaining the depth and quality of library resources required for UCI’s advanced scholarly work,” said John Renaud, Assistant University Librarian for Research Resources. “We are thankful to Tom and Lynda for continuing Irene’s commitment to learning and research.”
