Connecting with Our Students: UCI Libraries Student Employee Appreciation Week

ImageThe UCI Libraries employs over 100 students each year and they assist in critical library services that support the learning and research needs of the campus and community. Since 2003, student employees have been recognized for their important role in the success of the Libraries during annual picnic events.

This year, the Libraries celebrated its student employees during the week of May 27 - 30. This was the first year that a week was dedicated to honoring them and it was a great success! More than half of our student employees participated in activities, and feedback from both students and library staff was positive.

The week’s activities included a group photo shoot, daily raffle prizes, and an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Special Collections and Archives for interested graduating seniors. Student employees also received buttons to commemorate the week, as well as a special letter of thanks from University Librarian, Lorelei Tanji. Lastly, graduating seniors were honored with the traditional UCI Libraries coffee mug.

All activities were planned and coordinated with the help of the Libraries’ 2013-14 Student Employee Appreciation Committee: Jessica Brobst, Christine Kim, Kevin Lee and Sheree Baugh. The goal of the Libraries’ Student Employee Appreciation Week is not only to recognize students for the important work they do in the Libraries, but to foster strong relationships with them long after their service.
