Studying the Past in a 21st Century Research Library

ImageOn March 1st, the Libraries presented a fascinating workshop on the innovative reference services available in the UCI Libraries today. The program highlighted how technology and the digital environment have impacted the way students and scholars navigate information in their research efforts.

Presenters Cynthia Johnson, Head of Reference Services, and Becky Imamoto, Research Librarian for History & African American Studies, gave an overview of a number of the services and tools employed by the Libraries to enhance the research process and meet user needs, including live chat, screen sharing, and QR codes.

They also demonstrated a variety of online historical resources that are available today. Attendees had the opportunity to explore electronic newspapers, magazines, texts, diaries, and letters from the 18th through the 20th centuries.

“I was really impressed by what I learned is happening at the UCI Libraries today,” said community member and Library Partner Jay Wilbur.
