UCI Health Sciences Librarian
Linda Suk-Ling Murphy

Many of us are turning to the Internet for health information. Have you ever felt frustrated and overwhelmed trying to make sense of all the health information that can be found on the Web? On November 13th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Libraries will present a hands-on workshop offering strategies for finding reliable health information on the Web, as well as excellent pointers to trusted health information sites.

UCI Health Sciences Librarian Linda Suk-Ling Murphy will lead the workshop. She will offer tips on finding and identifying trustworthy health information on the Web and provide resources to help you communicate with your healthcare provider. She will also cover sites devoted to pharmaceutical information for consumers, drug-interaction databases, and herbal information.

Murphy has an M.A. in Library Information Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Health Sciences: Community Health Education from San Jose State University. As the Health Sciences Librarian with a subspecialty in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), she has planned, developed, and implemented various workshops and seminars to enhance UCI faculty, residents, students, and staff skills in information literacy and competency and in the area of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM). Her research interests include health information literacy, culture competency, EBM, and information retrievals. She has authored and co-authored numerous research papers in some of these areas.

The workshop will be held in the Science Library Interactive Learning Center, Room 166, and is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Limited seating; priority given to Library Partners. Self parking ($7) in the Mesa Court parking structure on Mesa Drive, adjacent to the Bren Events Center.
