In Memoriam

Four new research fellowships will soon be available to undergraduates through the Libraries' partnership with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). Funded by the Nellie Ansley Reeves Endowment and UROP, the new Libraries-UROP Research Fellowships will debut in Fall 2005.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program encourages and facilitates faculty-mentored research and creative activities by undergraduates from all schools and academic disciplines on campus. The new fellowships will provide recognition and support to selected UROP Fellows whose projects make significant use of online or print library resources, demonstrate creative applications of research methodology, or focus on research about the scholarly information process. Recipients will receive $500 and the opportunity to work closely with a research librarian who is a subject expert in the student's field of inquiry.

“The Libraries provide a wide array of assistance to undergraduates involved in research,” said University Librarian Gerry Munoff. “The UCI Libraries-UROP Fellowships will highlight our services and give recognition to outstanding undergraduate researchers.”

Fellows are required to write a paper, present their research at the annual UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium, and submit their manuscripts to be considered for publication in The UCI Undergraduate Research Journal. Projects that demonstrate particular excellence will be highlighted on the Libraries' website.
