Regeneration and Rejuvenation

On May 18, over 250 library employees attended the 2nd Annual Student Employee Appreciation Picnic in Aldrich Park. Established in 2003, the event shows appreciation for the work of all student employees in the Libraries. Library staff and student employees enjoyed barbecued hamburgers and hotdogs, salads and cookies, along with music and festivities.

At the event, University Librarian Gerry Munoff shared the impact of student workers on the library. “The Libraries are one of the largest employers of students on campus,” he said, “and our student workers play an increasingly important role in the overall success of our operation. Student employees are increasingly relied on to accomplish front-line duties, and more and more are the ‘face’ of the library to the public.”

The highlight of the event was the recognition of graduating students, many of whom had worked at the libraries during the majority of their undergraduate program.
