Valentines for the Libraries

ImageLove was in the air this past Valentine's Day and the UCI Libraries decided to celebrate the holiday with UCI students. For two hours a day, on February 10-12th, library staff set up tables in the Langson Library and Ayala Science Library lobbies to pass out candy, buttons and 3-D Valentine's cards. Simultaneously, students were asked if they would like to write a note to the Libraries. They answered the question, "Why do YOU love the UCI Libraries?

"The UCI Libraries represents UCI in a wonderful way with their knowledgeable, friendly staff and abundant resources." - Anonymous response.

Students were excited and ready with their answers! Over 200 responses were received over the course of three days. Some even came back and asked to write a second note. One student wrote, "I love the library because it holds such an amazing volume of knowledge and is so easily accessible."

Most notes referenced how great the study spaces were, describing all of the amenities available and atmosphere. One student mentioned that the libraries were the only place they could study and focus. Others mentioned the vast resources offered including reserve books and technology, and a few mentioned the Libraries' stress relief activities.

The responses gave the Libraries unique insight into what patrons find most important and useful in their library experience. We were so pleased with the enthusiasm and number of responses that we plan to use them to make our patrons' experience even more wonderful and empowering in the future.

"I love the UCI Libraries because they provide me the quiet space where I can focus on my studies and walk towards my dream everyday." - Anonymous response.

More responses can be seen in a video here.
