50th Anniversary Historical Documentation Project: Off To a Great Start

ImageThe 50th Anniversary Historical Documentation Project started off the 2015 anniversary year strong. During Homecoming we had the pleasure of working with the UCI Alumni Association to record the stories of over two dozen UCI alums. The footage taken in the Alumni Story Booth will be housed in Special Collections and Archives.

Over fifty UCI difference makers have accepted our invitation to participate in UCI Stories. It is encouraging that this group, which includes alumni, faculty, staff, and community members is eager to support our special oral history project. To date, we have had the pleasure of listening in on reflections from the following:

• Daniel Aldrich, III and Elizabeth Toomey
• Thomas Parham and Joseph White
• Harold Moore and Larry Overman
• James March, Bill Maurer, and William Schonfeld
• Stephanie Reyes-Tuccio and Vicki Ruiz
• James Craig and Jill Halvaks
• Randy Lewis and Sally Peterson
• Sean Joyce and William Woollett
• Jackie Dooley and Christine Kim

During filmed interviews, these individuals reminisced about life as UCI students, teachers, and mentors; the development and evolution of campus schools, departments, and programs; past and present town/gown relationships; and former Chancellor Dan Aldrich as a father. We look forward to what our upcoming pairs can tell us about UCI's Bright Past and Brilliant Future. In coming weeks, we will hear from:

• Herb Killackey and John Hemminger
• Erwin Chemerinsky and Michael Gottfredson
• Michael Clark and Robert Folkenflik
• Manuel Gomez and Jenny Doh
• Marianne Schnaubelt and Cathy Van Camp

Guests at UCInsights let us know that the 50th Anniversary Historical Documentation Project is on the right track. Event attendees were captivated as they watched footage of Elizabeth Toomey and Daniel Aldrich, III recalling the dedication of Aldrich Park. Guests were also eager to learn about how the 50th project connects to past and future Library initiatives. Work from this project will be available by Fall 2015—meanwhile, the public can view other historic materials on the Online Archive of UCI History Online Archive of UCI History.
