From The University Librarian

ImageDear Friends and Supporters,

As the campus celebrates a 50 year milestone, it is a great time to reflect on the accomplishments of the past and also look toward the bright future ahead. The past few months have indeed been a time of reflection for the Libraries. From honoring past medalists at the UCI Medal Dinner to acknowledging the numerous accomplishments of student athletes and coaches in our fall exhibit, Ready, Set, Zot! UCI Athletics Since '65.

While we take time to honor the past, this has also been a dynamic time for the Libraries to look toward the future as well. The role of the library has changed, as the campus has changed, evolving to meet the needs of scholars of this and future generations. How users interface with the library, and each other, along with the creative ways in which they are inspired by our resources, are key focal points for our continuous growth.

The addition of key acquisitions to our Special Collections and Archives such as the film, Ebony Kaleidoscope, and the Libraries' support for the Vietnamese Focus exhibition at the Orange County Courthouse are just a few examples of the ways in which our libraries are providing engaging research materials and are reaching outward to connect materials to the community we serve.

This academic year marks amazing new additions to our collections, an opportunity for growth in the digital resources we provide and advances in technology that inspire scholars to explore, discover, and advance knowledge. The future of the UCI Libraries is a bright one!

Sincerely,

Lorelei Tanji
