Dolores Grunigen gift supports Grunigen Medical Library

ImageDolores Grunigen has made a major gift in support of the Forest Grunigen Medical Library (GML) at the UC Irvine Medical Center. The gift will be recognized with the naming of a new group study room in GML as the Forest J. and Dolores S. Grunigen Group Study Room.

“We are deeply grateful for Dolores’s support. Her gift will help us build upon the national reputation of the Grunigen Medical Library as a modern and vibrant resource that both attracts and meets the needs of today’s UC Irvine Health community,” said University Librarian Lorelei Tanji.

The Forest J. Grunigen Medical Library is named in honor of Mrs. Grunigen late husband Forest Grunigen, M.D. whose work as a School of Medicine alumnus, supporter and friend made a lasting impact on medical education at UCI. Dr. Grunigen’s legacy lives on today because of Dolores’s generosity and philanthropic spirit that reflect both her pride in his work and her own passion for learning.

“We cannot underestimate the importance of a strong medical library,” said Mrs. Grunigen. “Teaching and research cannot move forward without access to the ever increasing volume of medical knowledge and information which expands daily. Forest believed in the future and the knowledge and education provided by the library. It is now my turn to step up and continue his dream.”
