Thanks to support from the Jack Langson Library Fund, a number of exciting renovation projects in Langson Library took place over the summer and are now complete. Upgrades to both the second floor lobby level and to Special Collections & Archives on the fifth floor greatly improve the study and research experience of library patrons.

New paint and carpet on the second floor create a more inviting space for studying and browsing our new books, magazines and journals. A variety of new seating and study spaces are now available including study carrels, tables, couches and chairs. The Langson Reference Desk has been moved to the lobby floor from the first floor to save users time by providing research assistance as soon as you enter the library. In addition, the Technology Enhanced Classroom, and two meeting rooms were upgraded, as well as staff offices on the second floor. The former reference area on the first floor has been modified to a laptop bar which provides more seats for students doing short term computer work.

Seating capacity has been doubled to accommodate instruction sessions for up to 24 students. The renovation also includes a new exhibit area in the Lobby outside the entrance to the Reading Room.

In addition to these major improvements on the first and second floors, the Libraries Special Collections and Archives, on the fifth floor of Langson has had a major face lift to improve conditions for our researchers. With new tables, chairs, carpeting, and paint, the Verle and Elizabeth Annis Reading Room is now more spacious and comfortable. Shelving was rearranged so researchers can appreciate the spectacular views of the campus from our floor to ceiling windows. New tables conveniently provide access to electricity for laptops at each researcher station. Seating capacity has been doubled to accommodate instruction sessions for up to 24 students.

The renovation also includes a new exhibit area in the Lobby outside the entrance to the Reading Room. The fall exhibit is "Sixteen Books by Ed Ruscha," which runs from September 26, 2011 – January 13, 2012. Patrons are welcome to come by and see the improvements, and view our new exhibit.
