Michelle Light

Have you ever wondered how to take care of the albums of photographs from your mother’s childhood, or how to care for treasured or valuable books, papers, and home movies? On May 29, from 10 - 12a.m., the Libraries will offer Preservation 101: Basic Tips for the Household Archivist, a workshop on how to best preserve the memories and artifacts of your family’s history and how to avoid the greatest archival evils and hazards. The program is part of Intersections, a series of library workshops offering instruction on a variety of fascinating topics for intellectual enrichment and enjoyment.

Michelle Light, Archivist and Interim Head of Special Collections and Archives at the Libraries, will lead the workshop. Light has two master’s degrees from the University of Michigan, in Information (specializing in archives and records management) and History, as well as a B.A. from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining UCI, Light held positions at the University of Washington, Northeastern and Yale. She has been responsible for the organization, preservation, and description of historical materials in all formats, including manuscripts, ephemera, photographs, and other media. Her record of professional accomplishment includes publications, frequent conference papers, and active leadership in the Society of American Archivists.

The event will be held in Langson Library Room 570 and is free and open to the public. Limited seating; priority given to Library Partners.
