Described as "a master of our darkest dreams," by The Times (London), and "a superb plotter and wordsmith," by USA Today, Orange County resident Dean Koontz has sold an astounding 400 million novels worldwide and eleven of his novels have risen to number one on the New York Times bestseller list. The prolific writer attributes his success to his work ethic and what he calls his "endless fascination with the story-telling process."

Karen Joy Fowler has built a gleaming reputation among readers, critics, and her fellow authors as one of our most entertaining, inventive, and distinctive writers. With the New York Times bestseller The Jane Austen Book Club, now a major motion picture, Fowler made the leap from writer's writer and cult favorite to enormous popular success.

Since moving to UCI in April of 2009, Literary Orange has become Orange County's premier literary festival. The day-long event includes author panel discussions, book sales and signing sessions, and a banquet style luncheon. Last April, hundreds of enthusiastic readers heard from keynote speakers Stephen J. Cannell, Sandra Tsing Loh, and Ron Carlson, the Director of the Programs in Writing at UCI. Carlson said, "It was such a privilege to be with so many like-minded people, who care about the written word and the thoughts behind writing, especially in a time when everything is going faster and faster, and such kind, such deep and quality thinking is under siege."

The lineup of authors for Literary Orange 2010 promises to be exciting, and will feature many UCI faculty and writing program alumni on different genre panels, including professors Vicki Ruiz, Gregory Benford, Amy Wilentz, Mark LeVine, and William Lobdell, along with acclaimed novelists Mary Yukari Waters, '02, Maile Meloy, '00, Elizabeth Hartley Winthrop, '04, and Vicki Forman, '93.
