A number of exciting new library resources have been acquired with the John and Elizabeth Stahr Library Fund. The fund was established in 2002 with a generous gift from the Stahrs to support the research collections of the UCI Libraries.

“Great libraries lead to great universities and great communities,” said longtime campus and library supporters John and Elizabeth Stahr. “We are proud to have established a leadership fund at the UCI Libraries and contribute to the center of excellence for the university.”

The acquisitions made with the fund include print and online resources in a variety of subject matters, reflecting the Stahr’s wish to help support all the academic disciplines on campus. Recent acquisitions include The Encyclopedia of Education, a comprehensive, up-to-date resource of the key issues in education today, Sur, an important and influential library magazine published in Latin America that features the writings of leading figures in literature, philosophy, history from Latin America, North America, and Western Europe, The Nature Encyclopedia of the Human Genome, a comprehensive and rigorously detailed overview of current genome science and its groundbreaking applications, and the Oxford Classical Dictionary, an authoritative online guide to all aspects of the ancient world – political, economic, philosophical, religious, artistic, and social.

Expendable leadership funds such as the Stahr Fund provide the Libraries with the flexibility to meet immediate needs for the acquisition of new journals and cutting-edge research materials for both existing and emerging academic disciplines.
