Dr. Rosalyn Laudati Creates Fund to Support Special Collections and Archives

Rosalyn M. Laudati, Ph.D gave a major gift to the UCI Libraries to create a University Librarian's discretionary fund to support Special Collections and Archives and the Libraries' other high priority needs. In recognition of the gift, Langson Library Conference Room 570 was named the Caroline A. Laudati Conference Room in honor of Dr. Laudati's late aunt. Caroline Laudati, M.A. was an educator and principal in the Providence, Rhode Island, school system for 46 years.

"I am delighted to support the Libraries and the important work of Special Collections and Archives," said Dr. Laudati. "As a collector of rare books, I appreciate the value of rare and archival materials, as well as the important role of Special Collections and Archives in preserving and providing access to them for scholarly research. The Libraries' special collections are a mark of distinction for UCI, and play an essential role in documenting our cultural heritage. I am very pleased to help support and promote the strength of these collections, and the Libraries at large as a center of knowledge and learning for the campus and our community."

Dr. Rosalyn Laudati is a psychologist in private practice in Orange County, and received her Ph.D. in 1976 from the University of Iowa. She has been a supporter of the Libraries for over 20 years. In 2007, she established the Hector D. Laudati and Caroline A. Laudati Library Endowed Fund, and in 2004 named the Hector D. and Edythe M. Laudati Reading Room in the Science Library.

"Dr. Laudati's tremendous support helps us fulfill our vision of a 21st Century Research Library at UCI," said Interim University Librarian Lorelei Tanji." One of the Libraries' highest priorities is to build premier special collections that are reflective of UCI's unique geographical setting and institutional history. Dr. Laudati's generous gift will enable us to enhance and provide greater access to these important materials, and continue to offer the very best cutting-edge information resources and innovative services for our users. I am pleased that Dr. Laudati's commitment to the Libraries will be recognized for years to come by the many students, faculty, staff, and community members who use this room."

Caroline A. Laudati Conference Room (room 570) is located on the fifth floor with a spectacular view of the campus. The room is heavily used for library-related business meetings, special events, and library instructional classes by the department of Special Collections and Archives, as well as for meetings of campus leadership.
