The use of the Libraries Gateway Study Center (LGSC) has dramatically increased since its first phase of upgrades during a summer-long renovation in 2008. Phase 2 of the renovation project is now complete and has resulted in the construction of 13 new study rooms accommodating 2 to 6 people per room. In addition, comfortable seating and study tables have been placed throughout the remaining space. With natural light and a vista to Aldrich Park, the increased seating has made this a welcomed and enhanced study experience for students.

Since the completion of Phase 1, students have made use of the renovated LGSC space by studying at the many new carrels, tables, and soft seating located throughout the 2nd floor. Updates include repaired walls, new carpeting, new paint, and a complete renovation of the original wood panel wall. The technology available to students has been upgraded as well. 90 new computers were installed with 19-inch flat panel monitors and high-speed Wi-Fi routers offering wireless Internet to students. In addition, to ease overcrowding in Langson Library, the 1st floor of LGSC was cleared and stacks erected to create a collections "annex."

The increased seating has made this a welcomed and enhanced study experience for students.

The newly redesigned space in the Libraries Gateway Study Center is the culmination of years of collaborative planning between library staff, the architectural firm, Gruen Associates, and campus Project Management.
